About the Artist

"The main thing is to be moved, to love, to hope, to tremble, to live.” Auguste Rodin
I was born in South Africa and now live in Oregon, United States. My journey with art began at the age of twelve when I started attending after-school art classes. That early spark of creativity stayed with me quietly over the years until 2010, when I resumed my art studies with Stefan Baumann. It was then that my passion for painting, especially in oils, was truly ignited. Influenced by artists such as Sargent, Zorn, and Sorolla, I draw from my personal experiences and the blending of two cultures to shape my own artistic expression.
Before fully dedicating myself to art, I worked as an interior designer, which gave me a solid understanding of balance, form, color, and perspective. My artwork is primarily representational and traditional in approach, and I often describe it as "passionate realism." I enjoy painting a wide variety of subjects, including figurative work, landscapes, and still life. Through my paintings, I seek to capture glimpses of the Divine—not only found in nature but also in everyday objects. Like a multifaceted diamond, my art reflects multiple perspectives, interests, and themes through the nuanced use of color and light.
My work is a fusion of abstraction and realism, mostly expressed through oil painting. I am drawn to the challenge of transforming ordinary subjects by infusing them with vibrant colors and rich textures. This interplay between intricate, detailed areas and moments of simplicity creates a dynamic visual balance that invites viewers to engage deeply with each piece.
I choose my subject matter based on what ignites excitement or interest within me. Often, it is the captivating effects of light on a scene that catch my attention, revealing hidden nuances and moods. Nature—especially the delicate beauty of flowers and birds—alongside everyday objects provides a continual source of inspiration and reminds me of the extraordinary within the familiar.
My technique begins by covering the canvas with a midtone, which establishes a foundation that supports both abstraction and realism. I then build layers of texture and abstract elements that create focal points and establish visual movement, guiding the viewer’s eye throughout the composition. From this layered background, the subject gradually emerges and comes into focus, revealing itself organically.
Through this process, I aim to create art that resonates by capturing the interplay between complexity and simplicity, light and shadow, abstraction and form.
As part of my ongoing artistic growth, I have participated in workshops with renowned artists including Kevin Beilfuss, Frank Ordaz, Ron DiCianni, and Thomas Blackshear ,to name a few. I frequently visit galleries and museums to draw inspiration from both contemporary and old masters. I am also a member of the Masterpiece Christian Fine Art Foundation based in Ashland, Oregon.
I believe the true purpose of my art is to provide insight, hope, and joy to those who view my work, sharing with others the gift of the Giver.
